10 reasons to come on vacation in Morocco

You already know that we are Morocco’s number one fans, especially if you have read other articles in our blog.

We are fascinated by this country, especially the Erg Chebbi desert, which stole our hearts in such a way that we decided to start our life project here seven years ago.

In addition to falling in love with the desert, we discovered that a vacation in Morocco is always a vital turning point, which is why almost everyone repeats the experience.

You may think we’re exaggerating.

Well, wait until you see all the reasons why a vacation in Morocco is a great idea and then we’ll talk again.

Shall we?

10 reasons to spend your vacation in Morocco

If we had to choose just one word to sum up what you will experience on a vacation in Morocco, it would be “exoticism”.

Everything in this country is different from what we have experienced so far: from the language, through the customs and finally the landscapes. So, pack your suitcase with a good dose of “be water my friend”, as Bruce Lee would say, and enjoy!

With this open mind, let’s start with the ten reasons why visiting Moroccan lands on your vacation can be a tremendous experience.

1 – The Culture

If you thought that a vacation in Morocco was going to be all desert and souks, you will be amazed when you see the diversity of museums, handicrafts, and music they have.

Think about it… What can you expect from a country that has been inhabited by so many different cultures throughout its history?

The Berber tribes have been joined over the centuries by Phoenicians, Romans, French, Portuguese, Spanish and even Jews!

In fact, in Casablanca you can visit the only Jewish museum in the entire Muslim world.

What has survived the steamroller that is history is its craftsmanship; pottery, carpets and jewelry made in the traditional way and that you can buy in any of its souks at very affordable prices.

2 – Nature

Morocco has all kinds of landscapes full of contrast.

In addition to the desert, we have palm groves, gorges, canyons and waterfalls that create landscapes of enormous dimensions.

A dozen natural parks and various protected areas are the achievements of this country where you can immerse yourself in wild and authentic nature for hiking trails, sandboarding on gigantic dunes or rides on camelback.

3 – Adventure

A vacation in Morocco guarantees, if you want, a good dose of adventure.

Some people may say that things can go wrong in a matter of seconds and that everything you had planned can be ruined.

It is precisely these twists and turns that bring you the fun of improvisation, with situations that are resolved in the most unexpected way.

That’s what makes you finish the day and feel a sense of enormous satisfaction. We know it well because we see the excitement from our visitors when they come back to the camp at the end of the day after the activities we organize.

4 – Colors

The color palette you get to enjoy on a vacation in Morocco will be engraved in your retina.

Get your camera ready because the awesome pictures you will take here will be mind-blowing.

The earth tones of the adobe of the Kasbahs that blend into the landscape, the gold of the desert dunes or the powerful blue that you will see for example in the streets of Chefchaouen are just a few examples of the mix of colors that awaits you.

5 – Architecture

The cultural diversity mentioned above can also be appreciated in the architecture, of course.

During a vacation in Morocco, you can visit a great variety of buildings and stay in many others, so add words like medina, mosque, Kasbah, ksar, bivouac or Riad to your vocabulary because you are sure to come across them during your Moroccan adventure.

In all our tours we include a visit to at least one Kasbah such as Ait Ben Hadu and of course the immersion in the medinas of Marrakech or Fez, depending on which one you choose.

6 – Souks

You can’t come to Morocco and not go to a souk. They are spectacular, and that is why we include them in our catalog of activities.

Souks are markets filled with ceramics, leather goods, basketry, carpets, as well as food and spices.

In these places, locals doing their own shopping mingle with tourists, which gives them a very special atmosphere.

Watch out for the souks because they are addictive. Of course, you have to be prepared to bargain and not be in a hurry. Here, nothing goes at the initial sale price.

If you get over that, you will get the most authentic Moroccan souvenirs at very good prices.

Some advice: open all your senses well because in a Moroccan souk the smells, tastes and sounds are a very important component.

7 – Gastronomy

If you like hot and spicy dishes, you will have a great time in Morocco.

The Moroccan recipes are characterized by tajines and couscous prepared with fish, chicken or lamb that they raise themselves.

And to go with it: tea and more tea, the quintessential drink of the country that Moroccans have been drinking since they were children.

And Moroccan gastronomy cannot be truly appreciated without the large number of sweets made with ingredients such as almonds, honey and semolina. Surely the most famous is the chebakia, a flower-shaped cake covered with honey and sesame seeds that is very crunchy when fried.

8 – The People

If there is one thing Moroccans are known for, it is their friendliness and kindness.

Hospitality is in their DNA and when you visit one of their villages, eat at a restaurant or stay at places like Kam Kam Dunes, run by local people, they do their best to make you feel at home.

Most of them speak a little French and Spanish because they have been colonized and many of them speak English. What is certain is that they will find a way to communicate and make you feel comfortable.

They are friendly and peaceful to say the least, which makes you always feel safe. In fact, Morocco is a very safe country for foreign visitors, another of its charms.

9 – The Sahara

If you have been following us for a long time, you will know that our camp is located in the heart of the Sahara, in the Erg Chebbi desert in Morocco.

Yes, there are more deserts in the country, but ours is the one with the most impressive dunes, at least in our opinion.

Not to drift away from the subject, but, check out our post from a little while ago about which desert to visit in Morocco, it will help you to get an idea of the options you have.

Our suggestion is obvious.

For an unforgettable vacation in Morocco it is best to fly to Marrakech, where you can stay one or two days to enjoy all that the city has to offer, which is a lot, and from there go further south.

To do so, we pick you up in a 4×4 and take you down to Erg Chebbi with one or several stops; it depends on the days you have available.

Whatever the case, to soak up the Moroccan magic, our local guides will tell you stories and anecdotes about each place you visit.

10 – The Prices

There is no destination as exotic and inexpensive as Morocco.

Let’s see… You can spend as much as your imagination allows (which hopefully can be a lot) on a vacation in Morocco, if you want to, because there is a lot of awesome stuff here.

However, if you prefer more simple pleasures, this is a country where you can stay for a modest price in high class bivouacs like ours, eat real delicacies for a few euros and move around at very low costs, especially if you compare it with other African countries.

And here ends our list of reasons to spend your vacation in Morocco and sign up for one of our tours; or make your own, if you prefer. All of them are tours designed to make you fall in love with the essence of this wonderful country.

So, when are you coming?
