How to arrive by myself?

I want to drive to Kam Kam Dunes, how do I arrive in the desert?

1. Traveling in a 4×4 or SUV car and you are willing to drive across the desert:

This is the most adventurous and exciting way to arrive in the desert. Your meeting point will be at the only petrol station in Merzouga “Afriquia” where our guide will be waiting for you. Our guide will then get in your car with you and give you some basic lessons on how to drive your car across the desert. After that he will direct you towards Kam Kam Dunes. Usually your car’s tyre pressure will need to be decreased to ensure greater ease of driving. Please ensure that you know how to activate the 4×4 mode of your car.

2. Travelling in a regular car:

Your meeting point will be at the only petrol station in Merzouga “Afriquia” where our guide will be waiting for you. Afterwards he will escort you to a car park where you can safely leave your car. From there a 4×4 car transfer is provided to travel to Kam Kam Dunes. On the following day a transfer will be provided to drive you back to the car park to collect your car (free of charge).

3. Travelling with a hired driver:

Please ask your driver to contact us in advance.

IMPORTANT: Please on the arrival day call us in the morning when you leave from your hotel so we can be in touch all the time! Kindly call us again two hours before you arrive in Merzouga. (Usually two hours before is when you are approaching the city, “ERFOUD”).

The meeting point will be in the AFRIQUIA petrol station in Merzouga. Once there we will organise the transfer into the desert.

So, arrive in the desert the way you want and explore everything at your best.

Note: solo travellers might be teamed up with other groups during transfer, plus you may have to wait to be transfered in a specific time within a time frame. We ask you to be patient.

Can I arrive by plane?

Yes! It is a preferable way to get to Kam Kam Dunes. You can definitely arrive by plane. By far this is the most peaceful way to get to the camp. The nearest airport is the Errachidia (ERH) Airport. The Royal Air Marco Airlines flies regularly between Errachidia & Casablanca. Which makes it a viable option to get to Errachidia efficiently. Then you have two options to go to the camp from the airport.

For starters, one can take cars which would cost roughly about 100 EUROs one way per car (as per our commerce department says). This is a good option because it takes only one and a half hours to make it to the camp. It is relatively more comfortable than some other options. The second possible way to get to the camp is to use a helicopter or a private plane. Those who don’t mind going the extra mile to chase style and comfort can give it a try. The place has enough support for this process. This would also be a good option if you simply want to avoid the long and time-consuming journey to the camp that the other methods offer. Therefore, this is by far the fastest and most luxurious way to arrive by plane.

Tips for good driving in Morocco

The driving rules in Morocco are pretty similar to those of other European countries. It’s all about being safe and helping others to be safe in that process. You maintain the rules of the road, give others space to drive being honest there is nothing complex in this whole process. There are simple things that you have to follow while driving in Morocco. If there is a check post you have to stop there right at that stop. You are not supposed to go and stop in front of the police. Someone flashing light on you is in most cases a sign that there’s a police check post in front. You should also put on your seatbelts. There’s no workaround in these simple things.

You will be driving through a desert where there are no civilizations up to 100s of miles in any direction. Therefore, care not to engage in any dangerous maneuvres or anything that might push you towards an accident.  As you can guess the help might take hours to reach you, in places you might not even find a network to tell people where you are or ask for their help. By the way, if you are driving a rental car it might be a good thing to remember that most of those have a High franchise.

You have to regulate your speed when you are not in a freeway. Most localities have speed detecting cameras at their entrances. One last thing you should remember for driving in Morocco is that if you are driving at night, you should try to be aware of pedestrians and cyclists. It’s very hard to notice them in the dark as they go without any light and it’s not a good idea to hit anyone.

Can I arrive via public transport?

Simply speaking, yes, you can arrive at Merzouga by public transport. But note that, you can take a bus from either Marrakech or Fez. In the case of Marrakech, the departure starts daily at 8:30 and the first of those buses arrive at Merzouga at around 21:00.

On the other hand, if you are coming from Fez there are some other things to consider. First of all, you are supposed to be here on a night bus that starts at 20:30 from Fez and reaches Merzouga at around 7:15 the next morning. Early in the morning there are two possible options in front of you. Firstly you can opt for an early check-in which would cost you 50 EURO per person (MINIMUM TWO PERSONS). This would include a tour across the dunes and a lunch in a restaurant.

The alternative option is to stop at the city Rissaini, Roam around there, do some sightseeing & have your lunch there. After lunch, you can take a taxi or something along that line to get from Rissaini to Merzouga. An additional plus point of stopping there is that you get to see a city in the desert how it works and operates. You can find out more about the public transport bus on the website for Supra Tours.

Traveling in a regular car to Kam Kam Dunes

“Afriquia” petrol station in Merzouga is the only meeting point. Meet our guide there. Once you reach there, he will guide you to a car park to park your car in a safe hand. You will travel to Kam Kam Dunes from there in a 4×4 car transfer. The very next day, you will be again provided a transfer that will help you drive back to the car park to collect your car.

We wish to make this one day in your life memorable by all means.  While each desert has its unique beauty, Sahara desert, the hot and biggest of all is full of exceptional magnificence. The average temperature of this hottest desert is 30 degree C while it can reach up to 58 degree ºC as well. However, despite this hot climate, people enjoy everything this desert has to offer. And the temperature falls dramatically at night which can be as low as -6 degree Celcius.

Finally, enjoy the night atmosphere of the Sahara Berber region staying at the cozy stylish tent of Kam Kam Dunes. Built with organic dromedary leather this is not just an exclusive tent rather it is also equipped with a dining tent and chill out area that will allow you to enjoy the view of Erg Chebbi desert at the fullest. Each tent has a private bathroom with a hot water facility. Kam Kam Suites is another great option for the big family. If you want to have the feeling of being lost inside the desert, suites are always the best option for that.

Wish you the best and most adventurous trip ever!
