We have never liked Kam Kam Dunes being classified as a luxury camp in the Moroccan desert.
Why?
Because we come from a time when there were practically no camps like ours with that stylish and boho vibe that we are known for and with amenities such as private bathroom in every tent, comfortable beds and sheets and delicious food.
Since then, campsites have been popping up like mushrooms thanks to the “democratization of tourism,” which means that travel has become something that almost everyone does thanks to the growth of air travel, among other things.
These new camps began to call themselves “luxury camps” and we began to tear our hair out every time we heard it.
We find it really disrespectful to our beloved essence of Morocco and to the concept of luxury in this wonderful country to consider a place luxurious because it has PVC windows instead of tents made of camel skin by local artisans.
If that’s luxury, we don’t want to be luxurious. We came here to be authentic without ever compromising comfort.
Buuuuut, with time we have realized that we are considered luxurious, and we don’t deny it.
That is why in this article we want to analyze what is luxury and what is not, and in the end you decide if Kam Kam Dunes is a luxury camp in the desert of Morocco or not 😉

Why Kam Kam Dunes is considered a luxury camp
Let’s get a little technical to start with.
This is Merriam Webster’s definition of “luxury,” so you don’t think we made it up.

From the latin luxus.

- n. something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary.

Kam Kam Dunes matches all of the above; abundance in ease and comfort, high class, indulgence… all this defines us!
For the next point, the is no room for modesty and we’ll tell you why.
Luxury is style in the desert
If we talk about ornaments, comforts and sumptuous objects, our decor has it all. Our style with beautiful and comfortable carpets, bedding, furniture and even amenities such as the private bathroom that awaits you in the tent are selected and maintained with the utmost care and attention to detail.
That’s right, each tent has a private bathroom with its own shower with hot water.
Yes, we have worked hard to ensure that the tents are typical nomad tents made of organic dromedary skins and handmade by local craftsmen and at the same time include a bathroom so that you do not have to share it with anyone, as it happens in other camps.
But we do not want to talk about others: we want to show you what luxury means to stay in a camp that has style and at the same time stays true to its surroundings, with its range of colors and using local organic materials.
There is no use of plastic here; we use wood, traditional Moroccan fabrics and natural fibers presented in a bohemian style to make you feel part of the desert and with all the comforts you love at the same time.

Okay, don’t be fooled, living like a local in 2021 isn’t easy, especially if it’s your first time.
If you come back relatively often, it is likely that you will get used to it, since the people here are very hospitable, unlike the individualistic Western customs.
